My Family
All four of my grandparents came to Canada from Greece throughout the 1950s. My parents were both born in Montreal and moved to Laval with their parents in the 1970s. They married in 1983 and one year later, I was born!
Growing up Greek was certainly a big part of my upbringing! I can remember countless Easters - almost always 1 week after everyone else in the neighbourhood had celebrated their Easter - with relatives’ cars packing the street, dozens of “aunts” pinching my cheeks, and without fail, a lamb or a goat roasting on a spit.
Interests
I love sports. I started playing football when I was nine years old, and kept it up until about the age of 18. I also love to play rugby, and I actually spent four years playing Flanker for the Mount Allison University Men’s Rugby Football Club. My other big love is Martial Arts - I have a black belt in Daity-ryu Aiki Jujitsu. I actually learned Jujitsu while in high school, but they don’t have a webpage for the Jujitsu club. So here’s a link to my favourite Jujitsu page on the net.
I’m also a big book fan. I’ve been developing a library since about the age of 14, and I’ve got a pretty decent collection of books with titles ranging from Edward Gibbon’s The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire to my favourite read Plato’s Republic. I’ve search far and wide for good quality books, and by far the best books have been from The Folio Society. If you’re thinking of getting someone a nice gift, these books are always a great idea. I highly recommend them - and they’ve got something for everybody.
And of course, there are the traditional manly interests like golf, fine scotch and cigars. In fact, I’ve got a wonderful selection in my humidor these days of Romeo y Julietas and Montecristo #4s!
Hobbies
A few years ago, I taught myself how to design websites, and how to program in PHP/MySQL. It’s been a skill that has served me well, and in fact is currently paying my way through law school at the moment. I’ve also been able to share this skill with others, and have designed and donated a website to the Greek Community of Laval, and I have also created a website for law students called Twistlaw.
Twistlaw is actually a pretty interesting project that I am particularly proud of… I prefer to call it a case summary wiki, but what that really means is that it’s a way for law students to collaborate on their notes, and share them with others throughout the country, and the rest of the world. It’s unique (I think…), and the project is entirely law student centered and driven.
I also love photography. Have a look at my slideshow on Flickr. These pictures were taken with different cameras ranging from a 2 megapixel I had when I first started in 2005, to a 5 megapixel Kodak. I actually lost my Kodak camera! Now I’m working with Sony Cybershot.
Where am I now?
I currently live in Montreal.
