I’ve been a member of the business law group of a major law firm in Canada since 2010, and prior to that began working as a student with that firm in 2008. My practice focuses mainly on the areas of mergers and acquisitions, private equity, information technology and startups.
I advise clients on a wide variety of share and asset transactions at the local and international levels, including complex cross-border transactions involving multiple jurisdictions. In addition to my mergers and acquisitions experience in the industrial, manufacturing, media and financial services sectors, I also advise Canadian banks and credit unions in the acquisition and divestiture of card portfolios.
As a complement to my transactional work, I have has represented institutional clients with their private equity investments in both domestic and international markets, and have also advised public and private sector players in joint venture projects in the energy, oil and gas, and transportation industries.
Working as a web site designer, programmer and in social media for a number of years prior to beginning my career in law allowed me to obtain a unique understanding of some of the practical commercial and legal challenges facing small businesses and startups in the information technology sector. As a member of my firm’s Startup Program which was set up in 2012, I have extensive experience with startup financing and shareholder agreements, and regularly advise clients with the day-to-day issues that come up in the early stages of company formation.
I also advise clients on matters relating to compliance with Canada’s anti-spam legislation and have been published on the subject in academic and trade journals and magazines such as Internet and E-Commerce Law in Canada (2011-12) 11 I.E.C.L.C., the 2012 Lexpert / American Lawyer Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada (14th Edition) and the 2012/2013 Lexpert CCCA/ACCJE Corporate Counsel Directory and Yearbook (11th Edition).
